NAT B. BENSON JR., ESQ.
Nat Benson Jr., Esq. is the founding member of The Benson Law Firm where he focuses on estate planning and the practice of Elder Law.

Nat was born and educated in northern Ohio. He received his BA with a major in Accounting at Kent State University. Nat received his Juris Doctor from the University of Akron, while working full time as a financial analyst with the Timken Company. 

Nat has been a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, the Charleston County Bar Association, and the South Carolina Bar Association’s Elder Law Committee. He is a past president of the South Carolina Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law. He has been heavily involved with caring for the Lowcountry seniors for more than 25 years.

In 1990, Nat and his wife, Jan, leased Sandpiper Convalescent Center, a 176 bed skilled nursing facility, working closely with residents, their families, many government agencies, and other nursing facilities throughout the state. In 1995, Nat and his team designed, managed and leased Sandpiper Courtyard, an assisted living facility with 65 residents. They also leased Sandpiper Village an independent retirement facility with 133 apartments.

Since the inception in 2008 of the Accredited Agent program by the Veterans Administration, Nat has been an accredited attorney, allowing him to assist veterans and their spouses with claims for VA veterans benefits.

Nat is member of the French Huguenot Church of Charleston, serving as the Vice Chairman of the Body of Elders.

JAN B. BENSON, RN (RET.)
Jan B. Benson is a Nurse Consultant for The Benson Law Firm. She is a retired Registered Nurse, previously certified in Gerontological Nursing by ANA. 

Jan is a native of Spartanburg, South Carolina. She attended Furman University and started her nursing career in Greenville. 

Jan’s experience and dedication to quality in nursing and elder care spans many decades of professional activity in the Lowcountry. Between 1980 and 1987 she was the Director of Nursing for the Charleston Nursing Center. In 1990 Jan and her husband Nat, leased and operated the Sandpiper group, skilled nursing, assisted living and retirement facilities.

Jan is a Past Member of the Board of Directors of the S.C. Health Care Association (SCHCA), and is a Past Member of the DHEC Advisory Committee. She was the Chairperson of the Investigative Review Committee, SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Board. She has also been licensed as a Nursing Home Administrator and Community Residential Care Facility Administrator. 

Jan is a member of the French Huguenot Church of Charleston. The Bensons have four children and ten grand-children.
